AstroPie is a program to do photometry of stars. Therefore several tools are provided to inspect the results and search where it goes wrong, if it does.

AstroPie is written in the Python language and uses heavily the routines of the AstroPy world, but adds a Graphical UserInterface to it. And some extra tricks.

Of course, there are already a lot of good photometry programs available, but here and there I missed some extra flexibility.

The project is still in evolution, especially it’s documentation.  :-)))

 

The central starting point is the DashBoard which guides you step by step through the program.

 

 

The version of AstroPy you are using is mentioned in the title. 

Some buttons are still in an experimental phase. To be used at your own risk. Again, :-))

 

 

STEP 1 : Calibration

All science starts with Calibration. AstroPy lets you calibrate your files using bias, dark and flats.

 

STEP 2 : Choose Star Group to be Analysed

 A Star Group is an ensemble that comprises a variable star, and its surroundings : the variable star itself, comparison stars, and eventually other variable stars in its surroundings. You can see this as a template that will be laid over the photos that one will do photometry on.

 

Button : Create a Star Group

In order to be able to use a Star Group one must be able to create one.

 

Button : Choose Star Group

Once Star Groups are created they can be choosen from this list. That’s the first step when doing photometry : choose the Star Group you will be working on.

Button : Detail Star Group

With this button you can visualise, and work on, the details of a Star group.

 

Step 3 : Choose directory containing photos to be analysed

Once a Star Group has been chosen, one can choose a directory with the photos to be analysed.

Button : Choose Folder + Do Photometry

The folder with the photos is chosen, and the photometry on it is started.



Button : Same Folder + Do Photometry

All the files in the folder are read again, and the photometry on them is started again.

This can be interesting if one has added or removed files in the folder.

 

STEP 4 : Do the Photometry

Restart the photometry on the previously read photos;

(this button is now obsolete and will be removed in later versions)

 

STEP 5 : Inspect the results of the Photometry

 

Button : Show A Lot Of Graphs

This button guides you to a screen to inspect all kind of data on your analysed stars : from magnitude over flux and FWHM to Airmass. And many more.

 

Button : Show A Lot Of Apertures

Here you can inspect the Apertures that are laid over the stars to do the photometry on. Also allows to inspect the seeing and guiding effects on the photo’s.
